Benificial Properties of Lactobacillus acidophilus
Use
Lactobacillus acidophilus is a probiotic bacteria. A probiotic bacteria is a beneficial bacterium found in the intestinal tract of healthy mammals.
Lactobacillus acidophilus is the most commonly used probiotic. Such healthy bacteria inhabit the intestines and vaginal area and protects against "bad" organisms that can cause disease. The breakdown of food by Lactobacillus acidophilus produces lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide, and other beneficial byproducts.

Lactobacillus acidophilus also produces lactase. Lactase is an enzyme that breaks down milk sugar (lactose) into simple sugars. People who are lactose intolerant do not produce this enzyme.
